Help Equip an Emergency Maternity Room in Hebron

Hebron

Summary

In a village near Hebron, Palestine, pregnant women and mothers face serious challenges accessing urgent medical care due to movement restrictions, road closures and limited healthcare resources. During a recent visit, Rivers of Mercy founder Sister Haifa met with Dr Ghassan Shalafi, who showed her a room that could be transformed into a dedicated emergency maternity facility. The space exists. The need is urgent. But the essential medical equipment is missing. We are appealing for support to equip this facility with suitable delivery beds and essential medical equipment, helping strengthen access to urgent care for vulnerable women and mothers in Hebron.

Background

For pregnant women, timely access to medical care can be critical, particularly when
complications arise.
In a village just ten minutes from a hospital in Hebron, reaching medical services is not
always straightforward. Checkpoints, closures and movement restrictions can create serious
difficulties for families seeking urgent assistance.
During her visit to the area, Sister Haifa witnessed these challenges firsthand and met with
Dr Ghassan, a dedicated doctor working to provide essential healthcare to his community.
Dr Ghassan explained that the clinic has been facing increasing demands for emergency
care, yet its limited resources prevent it from being adequately equipped.
The clinic currently faces several challenges:
● A shortage of suitable beds for emergency maternity care and childbirth
● Limited essential medical equipment
● Insufficient resources to prepare a dedicated emergency maternity room
● Difficulties accessing hospital services during closures and emergencies
● Growing pressure on local healthcare providers to respond to urgent medical needs

Dr Ghassan showed Sister Haifa an existing room that is currently being used to store old
and unusable equipment.
Although the space requires preparation and medical equipment, it has the potential to
become a dedicated facility for women’s urgent healthcare needs.
With the right resources, this space could provide an important additional point of
care for mothers who face difficulties reaching hospital services.
